Faith life more than believing; it’s how you live

Sound Truth Ministry Bible Lesson: Galatians 2:20

Galatians 2:20 I have been crucified [i.e., died] with Christ, and so I am not the one who lives [anymore] but rather, it is Christ who lives in my heart. And [now] my entire life is being lived by trusting in the Son of God [to save and keep me], because He loved me and gave Himself up for me. (AUV)

Your new life in Christ is a result of faith (a faith life). The central message of Galatians 2:20 is “I live by faith in Jesus”. Do you live by faith in Jesus?

2 Corinthians 13:5 Put yourselves to a test; see if you are [really] in the faith [i.e., see if you are genuine Christians]; examine yourselves! Or, do you not realize that Jesus Christ is in your hearts, unless [of course] you fail the test [i.e., unless you are counterfeit Christians]. (AUV)

Crucified with Christ

When you see the word crucified in this lesson, it means to join in company with Christ. Of course, Jesus took care of your sins on the cross when He died for you. So, if you are born again, you are freed from sin’s control over you. Therefore, you are no longer a slave to sin.

Romans 6:6 We know that our old self was [figuratively] crucified with Christ, in order that the body of sin [i.e., our whole life of sin] might be destroyed [i.e., become powerless to control our actions and thoughts], so that we should not be enslaved to the practice of sin any longer. (AUV)

Titus 2:14 He gave Himself up for us, to buy us back from [enslavement to] all [kinds of] wickedness and to purify for Himself a group of people who belong to Him and who are eager to do good deeds. (AUV)

Live by faith

Now live by faith in the Son of God who loves you and gave himself to save you. To say it another way, rely on the faithfulness of Jesus. Why? Because He died to save you! So while you are alive, do not live for yourself, but for Jesus. He died and rose again for you.

Hebrews 10:37-38 “In just a little while, he who is coming will come. He will not wait any longer.” 38 And, “The one who is right with God will live by faith. And I am not pleased with the one who pulls back.” (Habakkuk 2:3,4) (NIRV)

In Habakkuk 2:4, the prophet says the person who lives right (the just/righteous), lives by their faith. He spoke of true believers, the born again. The Scriptures also make reference to the prophet in Romans 1:17 and Galatians 3:11.

Romans 1:17 For the Gospel reveals how a person can be made right with God. It is through faith [in Jesus], from beginning to end, just as it is written [see Habakkuk 2:4], “The righteous person will [obtain] life by [his] faith [in God].” (AUV)

It’s about how you live

Many talk about faith but fail to show that they have it. Life’s tests and challenges cause most to fail faith test. Does your faith show during life tests?

James 1:2-4 Consider it a sheer gift, friends, when tests and challenges come at you from all sides. You know that under pressure, your faith-life is forced into the open and shows its true colors. So don’t try to get out of anything prematurely. Let it do its work so you become mature and well-developed, not deficient in any way. (The Message)

Make sure your faith is firm and strong. Belief in the saving grace of God. Trust in the Bible and in Jesus for salvation. Faith makes it possible to please God.

In conclusion, your faith life is more than just believing; it’s about how you live. Blessings— Tim ☺.
