Friends In Need, established in 2006, is a subsidiary of Sound Truth Ministry helping others live better lives. The focus is to help those who are not able or find it difficult to help themselves within our communities. We are careful that we provide help and do not enable our friends in need to remain needy.

Helping Others

It is a challenge to decide the proper level of assistance for each person. When helping others we often become enablers when we give them a hand-out instead of a hand-up.

Don’t get tired of helping others. You will be rewarded when the time is right, if you don’t give up. Galatians 6:9 (CEV)

Doing for others but could not receive help

Are you the type of person that thinks “it will never happen to me, I am independent”? Are you used to giving and not receiving? I was that person until God showed me how He helps us become humble. While standing in line to receive food from the Sacred Heart food bank; God said ‘You can give but can’t receive?” He provides in ways that we would never imagine!

But whoever has this world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts his heart against him, how does the love of God abide in him? 18 My little children, let us not love in word or in speech; but in deed and in truth. 1 John 3:17-18 (RKJNT)

Please do your part

Doing what you can to help others is a gift. In fact, it is also a ministry and service.

Do you have the gift of speaking? Then speak as though God himself were speaking through you. Do you have the gift of helping others? Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies.

Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ. All glory and power to him forever and ever! Amen. 1 Peter 4:11 (NLT)

The need for help is DAILY not seasonal; we ask for all to get involved in this effort. A good place to begin is within your own assembly, your spiritual family or your local community. A need extends beyond food, clothing, and/or shelter.

Speak life into someone, smile, love and embrace those whom you would normally avoid; helping others can be very rewarding. It would be wonderful if we all would practice the concept of 2 Corinthians 8:10-15. Be the first to willingly give knowing that one day you may be the one in need of help.

Meeting the need of others

The Scriptures encourage unselfish care for others. Too often this message is lost or not taught.

What use is it, my brothers, for a man to say that he has faith, if he does nothing? will such a faith give him salvation? 15 If a brother or a sister is without clothing and in need of the day’s food,

16 And one of you says to them, Go in peace, be warm and full of food; but you do not give them the things of which their bodies have need, what profit is there in this? 17 Even so faith without works is dead. James 2:14-17 (BBE)

Caution

Do not be condemned for not helping others. Jesus warns us that God will judge us for the way we treat others in this life [please read Matthew 25:31-46].

Tell those rich in this world’s wealth to quit being so full of themselves and so obsessed with money, which is here today and gone tomorrow. Tell them to go after God, who piles on all the riches we could ever manage —

18 to do good, to be rich in helping others, to be extravagantly generous. 19 If they do that, they’ll build a treasury that will last, gaining life that is truly life. 1 Timothy 6:17-19 17 (MSG)

I urge you to do what you can to help friends in need, helping others is very rewarding. Be blessed by God when you give to those who are less well-off; be blessed—Tim.

‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ Acts 20:35

  1. They might want to start by talking with their family about has been going on or they may prefer to talk with someone that they do not know, like a doctor or health professional. The important part of helping your friend is to understand that you are there to offer support but it is up to your friend to decide how they are going to get it. If your friend does not want help, then be patient.
