Stuck on Hallelujah? Learn How To Make Your Praise Real!

STM Bible Snack

Those who taught me used the word “hallelujah” as a praise. As a result, we believed that we were worshipping God. Thankfully, after relying on their teachings for most of my life, the Lord corrected me. My praise is genuine now that I know how to adore Him and I’m no longer stuck on hallelujah!
Ephesians 1:3-6 [read Ephesians 1:3-14 (3-6)]
All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ. 4 Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. 5 God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure. 6 So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son. (NLT)
KJV: Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: 4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: 5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, 6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.

The sacrifice of praise

Bible Knowledge Commentary: No blood sacrifices were needed in the light of Jesus’ death, but to offer… Praise and to do good and to share with others were indeed sacrifices that God desired.
Hebrews 13:15-16 [read Hebrews 13:7-17 (15-16)]
So let us never stop offering to God our praise through Jesus. Let us talk openly about our faith in him. Then our words will be like an offering to God. 16 Don’t forget to do good. Don’t forget to share with others. God is pleased with those kinds of offerings. (NIRV)
KJV: By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name. 16 But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.

Suffer and Praise God

1 Peter 4:16 [read 1 Peter 4:12-19 (16)]
Don’t be ashamed to suffer for being a Christian. Praise God that you belong to him. (CEV)
KJV: Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.

5 ways to make your praise real

1. Talk openly about your faith in him. I.e., if the Lord has never failed you, talk about it! Hebrews 13:15
2. Let Him and others know how much you appreciate that you belong to him. 1 Peter 4:16
3. Talk about the things that He has done for you. For example, Sarah praised God for giving her a baby!
Genesis 21:6 [read Genesis 21:1-7 (6)]
Sarah said, “God has made me happy, and everyone who hears about this will be happy with me. (ERV)
KJV: And Sarah said, God hath made me to laugh, so that all that hear will laugh with me.

Talk about how patient God is…

4. Think of how kind and patient the Lord has been and praise Him for it. I.e., talk about it, that is how to truly praise God.
Romans 2:4 [read Romans 2:1-16 (4)]
Don’t you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you? Does this mean nothing to you? Can’t you see that his kindness is intended to turn you from your sin? (NLT)
KJV: Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?

Boast about your body being God’s temple!

5. This is the final suggestion, but possibly the most important. And that is to celebrate having the precious gift of the Holy Spirit!
1 Corinthians 6:19 [read 1 Corinthians 6:12-20 (19)]
Don’t you know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit? The Spirit is in you, and you have received the Spirit from God. You do not belong to yourselves. (NIRV)
KJV: What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
