STM Bible Snack

Matthew 28:20 [read Matthew 28:16-20 (20)]
Teach them to obey everything I have commanded you. And you can be sure that I am always with you, to the very end [of the world].” (NIRV)
KJV: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
This is Matthew’s version of the last things Jesus said to the apostles before, per Luke 24:51, “he was carried up into heaven”. After all, Jesus told them earlier that “if I don’t go away, the Helper won’t come to you” (John 16:7 ISV). In fact, for the benefit of this lesson, I chose Matthew’s version because he was the only one to quote Jesus, saying he was always with them. For more details, please continue.

The Helper/Holy Spirit Is Always With You

There are other statements that Jesus made that we must include. The first is in John 14, Jesus tells the disciples that the Father will give them another Helper (KJV ‘comforter’), which is the Holy Spirit, to comfort them.

John 14:16-17 [read John 14:15-18 (16-17)]
I will ask the Father to give you another Helper^, to be with you always. 17 He is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor recognizes him. But you recognize him, because he lives with you and will be in you. (ISV)
KJV: And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
^ Helper is just one of the many terms used for the Holy Spirit. Here are some others, Comforter (KJV), Intercessor, Counselor, Friend, Encourager, and Advocate.

Jesus is the Holy Spirit

Jamieson, Fausset, and Brown commentary – I will come to you—lit., “I am coming to you.” After Jesus told the disciples that the Spirit’s coming would be his coming to them, he told them that he would not leave them as orphans; he would father them.
John 14:18 [read John 14:15-18 (18)]
I will not leave you without someone to help you. And I myself will come back to you.. (WE)
KJV: I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

You’re never alone

1 John 3:23-24 [read 1 John 3:16-24 (23-24)]
And this is his commandment: We must believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and love one another, just as he commanded us. 24 Those who obey God’s commandments remain in fellowship with him, and he with them. And we know he lives in us because the Spirit he gave us lives in us. (NLT)
KJV: And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment. 24 And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.
If you are born again and are living a Christian life, God dwells in you, so He is with you at all times. So remember, you are never alone in the struggles of life.
