3 Of The Best Reasons To Control Your Actions
STM Bible Snack
God gave us his Spirit. And the Spirit doesn’t make us weak and fearful. Instead, the Spirit gives us power and love. He helps us control ourselves. 2 Timothy 1:7 (NIRV) [read 2 Timothy 1:3-7 (7)].
- The 1st of 3 of the best reasons to control your actions
- God gave us the ability to control our actions or the things we say, think, and do. It is a quality of the holy Spirit. So, it is something we should learn to use.
- Examples of using that control and Christian love
- Be sincere in your love for others. Hate everything that is evil and hold tight to everything that is good. 10 Love each other as brothers and sisters and honor others more than you do yourself. 11 Never give up. Eagerly follow the Holy Spirit and serve the Lord. 12 Let your hope make you glad. Be patient in time of trouble and never stop praying. 13 Take care of God’s needy people and welcome strangers into your home. Romans 12:9-13 (CEV) [read Romans 12:9-21 (9-13)].
The wisdom of using your ability to control your actions
- Reason #2
- Having the ability to control your actions is a very important part of the Christian life. In the Wisdom of Solomon 8:7, Solomon states, “Do you love justice? All the virtues are the result of Wisdom’s work: justice and courage, self-control and understanding. Life can offer us nothing more valuable than these.” (GNT)
- Solomon saw self-control as being valuable;
- “A person without self-control is like a city with broken-down walls” meaning you are without defense and exposed. Proverbs 25:28 (NLT)
Control works, thoughts, and feelings
To have self-discipline is to control your actions {works—the things you do}, desires {thoughts; the things you think about}, and emotions {feelings-our response or reaction to events}.
A fool expresses all his emotions, but a wise person controls them. Proverbs 29:11 (GW)
Given to the born-again believers
But if God’s spirit controls people, he gets them to do good things. You know that a good fruit tree always gets good fruit on it. Well, like that, a person with God’s spirit does good things. If you let God’s spirit lead you, he will get you to love God and to love other people. And you will be happy. And you will feel good and quiet inside yourself so that you will not fight with other people… 23 He will stop you from thinking you are too important, and he will help you to control yourself. And there is no law to stop anybody doing any of those good things. Galatians 5:22-23 (PEV) [read Galatians 5:16-26 (22-23)].
The 3rd of 3 of the best reasons to control your actions
So be watchful, and control yourselves completely. In this way, put your hope in the grace that lies ahead. This grace will be brought to you when Jesus Christ returns. 14 You should obey your Father. You shouldn’t give in to evil desires. They controlled your life when you didn’t know any better. 15 The God who chose you is holy. So you should be holy in all that you do. 16 It is written, “Be holy, because I am holy.” (Leviticus 11:44,45; 19:2) 1 Peter 1:13-16 (NIRV)
God gives you everything you need for salvation. This includes the ability to control your actions. He wants you to live a holy life and makes it possible to do so. I pray that you have enjoyed and will make the most of this Bible snack. Blessings to you and your loved ones—♥ Tim. ☺
