What we hope for and believe will be our destiny is eternal life in heaven. A child of God should hope to live in heaven and desire to be there forever.
What We Hope For, Our Destiny, Life In Heaven!
STM Bible Snack
- Titus 3:7 [read Titus 3:1-8 (7)]
- We were made right with God by His grace. And God gave us the Spirit so that we could receive the life that never ends. That is what we hope for. (ICB)
- KJV: That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
What we hope for
- It is useless to set goals we don’t believe we can accomplish. However, it is possible to have a life in heaven.
- 2 Corinthians 5:5 [read 2 Corinthians 5:1-8 (5)]
- God is the one who has prepared us to have a new life in heaven one day. He has given his Spirit to be with us now. Because of that, we know that we will receive all God’s good things one day. (EASY)
- KJV: Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God, who also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit.
Life Application Bible Commentary – All believers are promised a glorious eternity in heaven with God. We are confident that what we hope for is stored (or “laid up”) there, and that we will one day receive it.
Their Faith in Christ
- Colossians 1:4-5 [read Colossians 1:3-8 (4-5)]
- We have heard of your faith in Christ and of your love for all God’s people, 5 because what you hope for is kept safe for you in heaven. You first heard about this hope when you believed the true message, which is the good news. (CEV)
- KJV: Since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus, and of the love which ye have to all the saints, 5 For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel;
- Isaiah 65:17 and 66:22 both speak of the hope that God promises. It refers to a new heaven and earth that is not corrupt.
A heaven and a new earth
- 2 Peter 3:13 [read 2 Peter 3:10-13 (13)]
- What will happen next, and what we hope for, is what God promised: a new heaven and a new earth where justice reigns. (Voice)
- KJV: Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.
We hope, our destiny will be life in heaven that never ends
- Romans 8:17 [read Romans 8:12-17 (17)]
- Because we are God’s children, we also know that we will receive good things from him. Those are the things that he has promised to give to his children. Together with Christ, we will receive the things that God has kept for him.
That is true if we agree to have troubles like Christ did. Then we will also enjoy life in heaven like Christ does. (EASY) - KJV: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
The blessings in heaven
- 1 Peter 1:4 [read 1 Peter 1:3-12 (4)]
- Now we hope for the blessings God has for his children. These blessings are kept for you in heaven. They cannot be destroyed or be spoiled or lose their beauty. (ICB)
- KJV: To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,
Faith makes hope work
Finally, what we hope for is based on a promise and commitment from God sealed by His Holy Spirit. But we must know that faith is what makes hope work.
- 2 Corinthians 1:22 [read 2 Corinthians 1:15-24 (22)]
- He put his Spirit in our hearts and marked us as his own [put His seal on us]. We can now be sure that he will give us everything he promised us. (NIRV)
- KJV: Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.
Continue to hope for what God has promised because it is sealed with the Holy Spirit [Ephesians 1:3-14 (12-14)]. Above all, we should never lose hope that our destiny is life in heaven!
