This is a very important question: Is your name in the Lamb’s Book of Life? It is important to realize that your eternal destiny depends on whether your name is on that list. In fact, you will burn in the lake of fire if your name is not in that book. Please spend at least ten minutes to get the details.
Important: Is Your Name In The Lamb’s Book Of Life?
STM Bible Lesson
Lesson focus: Revelation 21:1-4 and 22-27 (2 and 27). Bible lesson background: The current heaven and earth will perish (disappear)*. The new is better than what it replaces because it is fresh and perfect. The sun, moon, and night are not necessary, nor are temples. Also excluded are any and all who would pollute [defile] the city and those whose names are not listed in the Lamb’s Book of Life.
- * Heaven and earth pass away
- Isaiah 65:17 (KJV) “I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.”
- Matthew 5:18 (OEBus) …”until the heavens and the earth disappear“.
- Mark 13:31 (ISV) “Heaven and earth will disappear“.
- Hebrews 12:26-27 (ICB) “Once again I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens.” 27 The words “once again” clearly show us that everything that was made will be destroyed.
The NEW heaven and earth
The day of the Lord’s return will surprise us like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a loud noise, and the heat will melt the whole universe. Then the earth and everything on it will be seen for what they are.
11 Everything will be destroyed. So you should serve and honor God by the way you live. 12 You should look forward to the day when God judges everyone, and you should try to make it come soon. On that day, the heavens will be destroyed by fire, and everything else will melt in the heat. 13 But God has promised us a new heaven and a new earth, where justice will rule. We are really looking forward to this! 2 Peter 3:10-13 (CEV)
Revelation 21:2 and 27
- I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem†, coming down out of heaven from God like a bride dressed beautifully for her husband. 27 Only what is pure will enter the city. No one will enter who does anything that’s shameful or deceitful; only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life†† will enter. (RAD)
- Cross references: † new Jerusalem—Hebrews 12:22; Revelation 3:12, 21:10; †† book of life—Exodus 32:32; Psalms 69:28; Philippians 4:3; Revelation 3:5, 13:8, 17:8, 20:12 and 15;
Life Application Bible Commentary – Those whose names were not found recorded in the Book of Life are those who did not place their faith in Jesus Christ. This is the second death. They died the first time physically; this time their death was spiritual (see also Revelation 20:6).
And if any person’s [name] was not found recorded in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire*. Revelation 20:15 (AUV)
- *NOTE: “The lake of fire” – the eternal dwelling of the unsaved; most incorrectly call it Hell. Did you know God will cast hell into the lake of fire {Revelation 20:14}?
The Lamb’s Book Of Life
- Nelson’s Illustrated Bible Dictionary—BOOK OF LIFE
- A heavenly book that contains the names of the righteous (the redeemed or saved). The concept of God’s having a “book of life” was probably first enunciated by Moses, who prayed that God would blot him out of God’s book rather than dooming his fellow Israelites (Exodus 32:32-33). This concept likely arose from the practice of registering people by genealogy (Nehemiah 7:5,64) and keeping a record of priests and Levites (Nehemiah 12:22-23).
Whose name will be in the book of life?
- All who belong to Christ – John 10:25-30 and 17:1-5 (3); Hebrews 9:11-15; 2 Peter 1:10-11.
- Also, those who obey Jesus’s instructions (God’s word) – Matthew 19:16-22; Mark 10:17-22; Luke 18:18-23; Romans 6:19-23; Philippians 3:12-21 (12-15 and 20).
- The born-again believers who endure until the end – John 3:16-21, 5:24-27 and 6:35-40; Galatians 6:7-10; 1 Timothy 1:15-17; Titus 3:3-8; 1 John 5:6-15.
Whose name will not be in the book of life?
- Those who reject or do not believe in Christ – Luke 10:13-16; John 12:47-50; 1 John 5:6-15.
- Undisciplined/non-chastised child – Proverbs 23:13-14.
- Those who are good but are not born again – Proverbs 14:12-13.
- Sinners – Proverbs 7:24-27, 9:13-18 and 12:28; Matthew 5:27-30; Mark 9:42-50; 1 Corinthians 6:9-11; Galatians 5:19-21; Revelation 21:1-8.
- Those who do not repent – Romans 2:5-11.
- People who love this world and seek to please the flesh – Galatians 6:7-10.
- Teachers of false doctrine – Galatians 1:6-9; Ephesians 5:3-7; 2 Peter 2:10-19.
When will or were our names recorded in the Lamb’s Book of Life?
Everyone living on earth would worship the beast. These are all the people since the beginning of the world whose names are not written in the Lamb’s book of life. The Lamb is the one who was killed. Revelation 13:8† (ERV)
- † The KJV wording, “whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world” makes it seem that “from the foundation of the world” is related to the death of Christ. However, since Jesus did not die before creation, the ERV and other similar translations are clearer.
In fact, the KJV Revelation 17:8 is a good example as well. - Revelation 17:8
- The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.
Supporting scriptures: Jesus’ book of life was written before the world was created
- Ephesians 1:4 (RAD)
- Before the world was created, God chose us in Christ to be holy and blameless in his eyes. Because he loved us,
- Romans 8:28-29 (NCV)
- We know that in everything God works for the good of those who love him. They are the people he called because that was his plan. 29 God knew them before he made the world, and he decided that they would be like his Son so that Jesus would be the firstborn of many brothers.
- 1 Peter 1:2 (PEV)
- A long time ago, God, our father, knew you, and he picked you to be in his family…[the full verse].
Your spiritual status
Do you know your spiritual status? If you do not meet God’s requirements, repent and get right with the Lord before it is too late!
Put yourselves to a test; see if you are [really] in the faith [i.e., see if you are genuine Christians]; examine yourselves! Or, do you not realize that Jesus Christ is in your hearts, unless [of course] you fail the test [i.e., unless you are counterfeit Christians]. 2 Corinthians 13:5 (AUV)
Take a look at the parable of the seed (God’s word) and the ground (the receiver’s heart condition, their focus, how they receive God’s word, and the final impact). [Matthew 13:18-23; Mark 4:13-20; Luke 8:11-15]
And in the same way, some [of the seed] that were sown on rocky soil represented those who heard ‘the word’ and immediately accepted it gladly, 17 but [since] they had such shallow roots, they continued on for [only] a little while. Then, when trouble and persecution arose over [obeying] ‘the word,’ immediately they stumbled [i.e., and fell away from God]. Mark 4:16-17 (AUV)
Be careful, the falling away is often a slow process. Please do not miss out because you are too caught up with your life (the cares of this world [Mark 4:13-20; Luke 21:34-38]). You have a priceless future waiting for you.
Blessed is the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has, in his great mercy, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, given us a new life of undying hope, that promises an inheritance, imperishable, stainless, unfading, which has been reserved for you in heaven. 1 Peter 1:3-4 (OEB)
Eternity wrap-up
The sheep—children of God
“But when I, the Messiah, shall come in my glory, and all the angels with me, then I shall sit upon my throne of glory. 32 And all the nations shall be gathered before me. And I will separate the people as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats, 33 and place the sheep at my right hand, and the goats at my left.
34 “Then I, the King, shall say to those at my right, ‘Come, blessed of my Father, into the Kingdom prepared for you from the founding of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you fed me; I was thirsty and you gave me water; I was a stranger and you invited me into your homes; 36 naked and you clothed me; sick and in prison, and you visited me.’ Matthew 25:31-36 (TLB)
The goats—the disobedient
“Then he will say to those on his left, ‘You are cursed! Go away from me into the fire that burns forever. It has been prepared for the devil and his angels. 42 I was hungry. But you gave me nothing to eat. I was thirsty. But you gave me nothing to drink. 43 I was a stranger. But you did not invite me in. I needed clothes. But you did not give me any. I was sick and in prison. But you did not take care of me.’ Matthew 25:41-43 (NIRV)
So, is your name in the Lamb’s Book of Life? Actually, the better question for a child of God is, “Is your name STILL in the Lamb’s Book of Life?” I say “still” because it is possible to be removed from His Book.
The person who has victory [in the Christian life] will be dressed like that, in white clothing, and I will not blot out his name from the book of life. And I will confess his name in front of my Father and His angels. Revelation 3:5 (AUV)
The choice is yours: Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” I pray that you have enjoyed and will make the most of this Bible lesson. Blessings to you and your loved ones—♥ Tim. ☺
