How To Forget About The Past, Your Sinful Life

Let’s learn how to forget about the past, i.e., your sinful life. A good start is to do as Paul did and said to the Philippians, “I forget what is in the past…”

Forget the things that happened in the past. Do not keep on thinking [or talking] about them. 25 “I am the one who wipes out your lawless acts. I do it because of who I am. I will not remember your sins anymore.” [Isaiah 43:18 and 25 (NIRV; read 14-28)]

Brothers and sisters, I know that I still have a long way to go. But there is one thing I do: I forget what is in the past and try as hard as I can to reach the goal before me. Philippians 3:13 (ERV)

Aw, the good old days or not-so-good old days. It does not matter how you view your past, let go of it! Let go of and forget about the old sinful nature—the old or former you. That life you lived before your rebirth or before you became a child of God.

Romans 6:2, 6 is a reminder that “Our old sinful life ended. It’s dead, our old life was put to death on the cross with Christ.”

How to forget

What is the solution, how do we forget and let go of the past? Imitate Paul’s example, as well as others who follow Christ; see Philippians 3:14-21 (17).

Adjust

Change your environment and your associates. Hanging out where and with whom you used to, is not a good idea. So adjust your thinking and embrace the new!

Don’t let anyone fool you. “Bad companions make a good person bad.” 1 Corinthians 15:33 (NIRV)
Stay away from people who are not followers of the Lord! Can someone who is good get along with someone who is evil? Are light and darkness the same? 2 Corinthians 6:14 (CEV)

Explore

Stay busy exploring your new life and the new hope that it brings.
Idle hands are the devil’s workshop; idle lips are his mouthpiece. Proverbs 16:27 (TLB)
There is an old saying that “A dog comes back to what he has vomited [Proverbs 26:11], and a pig is washed only to come back and wallow in the mud again.” That is the way it is with those who turn again to their sin. 2 Peter 2:22 (TLB)

Change

Develop new habits:
You have left your old sinful life and the things you did before. Colossians 3:9b (ICB).
1. Start doing things to enhance your Spiritual growth. Get involved with activities within your assembly or congregation.
2. Change what you let into your temple because you are the temple of God. Specifically, things like what you watch and what you listen to.
3. Attend Sunday school, bible studies, group functions, or join the choir. Most importantly, you have a new family, so become active with them, there is much to learn and do!

Yes, as stated in Romans 6:6 the old life—sinful nature was crucified so we should no longer be a slave to sin. Forget about your past life—let go—’put off the old life’. You have the help you need to adjust, explore, and change through Christ and the Holy Spirit. The longer the enslavement the more difficult the transition/change to living free.

Leave your old self

You were taught to leave your old self—to stop living the evil way you lived before. That old self becomes worse and worse because people are fooled by the evil things they want to do. Ephesians 4:22 (ICB)

I pray that you have enjoyed this Bible snack. Remember, you know how to forget about the past. The old you is dead, now live in an active new way! Blessings to you and your loved ones— Tim. ☺
