Lesson focus: 1 Corinthians 5:9 and 11. Bible lesson background, 1 Corinthians 5:1-13: Times are changing, today people seem to be less concerned about what God wants and more about their wants. In fact, it is all about our rights as individuals.
“I can do what I want if I want when I want.” Is that the way you think?
No matter what you think, fornication is a sexual sin. So, “no marriage, no sexual intercourse” should be the standard for all of God’s children.
David Guzik’s Commentary: Originally, porneia (Greek for fornication, 1 Corinthians 5:1) just referred to going to prostitutes; but before New Testament times, the Jewish community used the word to refer to any kind of extramarital sex, including homosexuality.
1 Corinthians 5:9, 11 [read 1 Corinthians 5:1-13 (9, 11)]
9 I wrote to you in my letter not to associate with fornicators; 11 But as it is, I wrote to you not to associate, if anyone who is named a brother is either a fornicator or greedy or an idolater or a reviler or a drunkard or an extortioner; do not even eat with such a person. (MLV)

This is an example of tough love, it is not to say that one is better than the other.

Fornication

  1. G4202 πορνεία porneia (por-nei’-a) n. 1. Prostitution (including adultery, incest, and porn). 2. (By extension) unwedded stimulation or fulfillment of sexual desire.
  2. G4203 πορνεύω porneuo (por-nev’-ō) v. 1. To act the prostitute. 2. (Literally) indulge unlawful lust (of either sex). 3. To stimulate unwedded sexual desire.

Fornicator

G4205 πόρνος pornos (por’-nos) n. Mickelson’s: a (male) prostitute (for hire). (by analogy/comparison) a sex addict, a pornographer.

  1. Strong’s: From πέρνημι pernēmi (to sell; akin to the base of G4097); a (male) prostitute (as venal), that is, (by analogy) a debauchee (a person whose life is devoted to luxury and sensual pleasures): – fornicator; whoremonger.
  2. Mounce’s: one who is sexually immoral (male or female), in some contexts distinguished from an adulterer (1 Corinthians 6:9); a catamite (a boy kept for homosexual practices).
  3. Abbott-Smith’s: anyone engaging in sexual immorality.
  4. Thayer’s: a man who prostitutes his body to another’s lust for hire, a male prostitute; universally, a man who indulges in unlawful sexual intercourse, a fornicator.

Fact #1 – Do not socialize with those who are having premarital sex

Christians should not associate (keep company; hang out) or eat with Christians who fornicate. Avoid socializing with them and tell them why, so that they may feel ashamed and hopefully change. [reference: Romans 16:17; 2 Thessalonians 3:6-15 (13-15); Matthew 18:15-20 (17).]

Ephesians 5:3 [read Ephesians 5:1-7 (3)]
So, as God’s people, you must never have sex with anyone that you are not married to. Do not do any kind of disgusting thing like that. Do not want many things for yourselves, just to make you happy. That is not how God’s people should live. (EASY)

Do not reject God’s warning

Hebrews 12:14-16 [read 12-17 (14-16)]
Try to live in peace with all people. And try to live lives free from sin. If anyone’s life is not holy, he will never see the Lord. 15 Be careful that no one fails to get God’s grace. Be careful that no one becomes like a bitter weed growing among you.

Fact #2 – Church Discipline

The church must expel those who do not change this behavior {i.e. if they do not stop having sex before marriage} (1 Corinthians 5:2 and 13)! This helps show the guilty person that they must repent and change their ways [Matthew 18:15-20 (17); 2 Timothy 2:24-26].

Exairo – take or put away
G1808 ἐξαίρω exairo (ex-ai’-rō) v. take away out of a place; to remove.
Christians are not required to judge non-Christians for their sins, but they are required to take action against sin in the church. In the case in question, this will mean the removal of the guilty person from the church fellowship (12-13).

Fact #3 – Our Bodies are the Temples of the Holy Spirit

Be mindful that your body is where the Holy Spirit lives. So, you cannot do anything with your body that you want. Especially when it comes to sexual activity.
Also remember, fornication is a sexual sin. As previously stated, Christian singles should abide by the rule of “no marriage, no sex.

Bad conduct harms the Church

Fact #5 – Those who sin sexually will not enter God’s Kingdom!

Final thoughts

Therefore, dear friends, please abstain from premarital sex. Fornication is a sexual sin, and God is unhappy with those who engage in it. Remember these 5 amazing facts:
