Fear God; Know What Happens If God’s Not Pleased?

"Fear God and give him glory - from Revelation 14:7"

STM Bible Snack

The angel said in a loud voice, “Fear God and give him glory because the time has come for him to judge. Worship the one who made heaven and earth, the sea and springs.” Revelation 14:7 (NOG) [read Revelation 14:6-13 (7)].

Fear God

Honor everyone. Love the family of believers. Have respectful fear of God. Honor the emperor [i.e., the leader of the country]. 1 Peter 2:17 (CEB) [read 1 Peter 2:13-17 (17)].

BLB Thayer’s Greek Lexicon – fear in 1 Peter 2:17; Revelation 14:7
“To have a reverential {meaning: showing or having a lot of respect} awe of fear.

Those who respect [fear] the Lord will have security [or confidence], and their children will be protected [have a refuge]. 27 Respect for [fear of] the Lord gives life [is a fountain of life] and can save people from death [turning people aside from death traps/snares]. Proverbs 14:26-27 (EXB)

We should fear God enough to want to please Him

Respect God enough to live holy
Because we have these promises [see 2 Corinthians 6:16-18], dear friends, let us cleanse ourselves from everything that can defile our body or spirit. And let us work toward complete holiness because we fear God. 2 Corinthians 7:1 (NLT)
Fear here is reverence and respect (for authority, rank, dignity).

Fear and tremble

God warned the Israelites
In Jeremiah 5:22 (ICB) God said, “Surely you are afraid of [fear] me,” says the Lord. “You should shake with fear in my presence.” [read Jeremiah 5:18-25 (22)]
This form of fear uses accusative language to express fear of the Lord.

Do you know what happens if God’s not pleased?

Jesus Teaches the Fear of God
The only one you should fear is God, the one who can send the body and the soul to be destroyed in hell. Matthew 10:28c (ERV) [read Matthew 10:27-31 (28c)].
This type of fear is to fear one, be afraid of one, lest he do harm, be displeased, etc.
All should stand in awe of [fear] God
Everyone on earth should fear and respect the Lord. All the people in the world should fear him, 9 because when he speaks, things happen. And if he says, “Stop!”—then it stops [Psalm 33:8-9 (ERV)].

Remember, God has the power and authority to destroy (send us to hell/lake of fire) or give us life that never ends (Luke 12:4-7 and John 3:1-21). If our love for others is real—Godly love—and we live right, free from sin, we have no reason to fear what God will do to us. I cannot stress how important it is to respect and fear God. So learn to FEAR, respect, honor, worship, and obey Him. I pray that you have enjoyed and will make the most of this Bible snack. Blessings to you and your loved ones— Tim. ☺
