This Prayer Formula Actually Works When You Follow Advice
STM Bible Snack
Do you believe prayer works? Is there a formula—certain things to do or say—to get God’s attention and receive what you ask for? I do not expect everyone to believe that there is a formula if what you do works, God bless you. These are a few scriptures to help us understand what we must do to receive what we ask for.
When you follow advice, this prayer formula actually works
ASK
- Luke 11:9-10 [read Luke 11:9-13 (9-10)]
- So I tell you, ask, and God will give to you. Search, and you will find. Knock, and the door will open for you. 10 Yes, everyone who asks will receive. The one who searches will find. And everyone who knocks will have the door opened. (NCV)
- KJV: And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. 10 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
BELIEVE
- Mark 11:24 [read Mark 11:20-24 (24)]
- So I tell you this. When you pray to ask God for anything, believe in him. Believe that you have received that thing. Then you will have whatever you have asked for. (EASY)
- KJV: Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.
Have trusting FAITH
- James 1:6 [read James 1:2-8 (6)]
- But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver (doubt), for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. (NLT)
- KJV: But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
Why do you want or need it? REASON
- James 4:3 [read James 4:1-6 (3)]
- You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, that you may spend it in your pleasures. (BLB)
- KJV: Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.
- Kakos – amiss
- G2560 κακῶς kakos (ka-kōs’) adv. with the wrong {bad; evil} intent {desire; purpose; motive}.
Ask in ‘JESUS NAME’
- We must not forget that God knows our thoughts {Psalms 94:8-11; Psalms 139:1-6}; be mindful of the reason you ask God for anything. Is it a selfish request? Do you need what you ask for—what are your plans? These are questions that you should think about before you petition God. The point is, God is not like people. You cannot trick Him. ☺
- John 14:13 [read John 14:12-14 (13)].
- And if you ask for anything in my name, I will do it for you. Then the Father’s glory will be shown through the Son. (ICB)
- KJV: And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
Now RECEIVE what you ask for
The scriptures give us access to God; they communicate His thoughts, advice, and instructions to us. The mistake so many of us make is to take one verse and think we have the answer to our question. However, as you can see, it has many parts to an end. So I combined various verses to create the prayer formula. See if you can find more scriptures to add to this formula [see Prayer Blockers; Know Them; Learn How to Avoid Them].
If you (follow advice) OBEY Him
- 1 John 3:22 [read 1 John 3: (22)]
- We will receive from Him whatever we ask if we obey Him and do what He wants. (NLV)
- KJV: And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.
I remind you to pray for full understanding while you study God’s word. Allow the Holy Spirit to help you understand what He requires. You will see that this prayer formula actually works when you follow the advice. Thank you for taking the time to read this Bible snack. I urge you to make full use of it. Blessings to you and your loved ones—♥ Tim. ☺
