Jesus Prayed For You So Never Worry About The Devil
STM Bible Snack: Jesus prayed for you
- John 17:15 and 20 [read John 17:6-26 (15 and 20)]
- I am not praying that you should take them out of the world, but that you should protect them from the evil one** [i.e., the devil]. 20 “I am not praying for these [apostles] only, but also for [all of] those who believe in me through their message.” (AUV)
- KJV: I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. 20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;
- ** FYI, the KJV and all modern KJV versions omit “one”, they wrote “the evil”. The exceptions are the RKJV and the NKJV, both wrote “the evil one.” The same is true with 2 Thessalonians 3:3.
NOTE: In John 17, Jesus prayed for Himself (John 17:1-5), His (eleven remaining) disciples (John 17:6-19), and all believers (John 17:20-26).
So never worry about the devil
After the new birth, i.e., being born again, we should no longer fear the devil (evil one). We are now part of God’s family and protected from the evil one. So don’t worry, Jesus will protect you.
- 1 John 5:18 [read 1 John 5:18-21 (18)]
- We know that those who are God’s children [are born of/begotten by God] do not continue to sin [sin; 3:6, 9]. The Son of God [the one born of/begotten by God; Jesus] keeps them safe [protects them], and the Evil One [the Devil] cannot touch [harm] them. (EXB)
- KJV: We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.
The Son of God, Jesus, protects the children of God, every Christian, including you. So, the evil one, the devil, cannot harm them. You are safe!
- 2 Thessalonians 3:3 [read 2 Thessalonians 3:1-5 (3)]
- But the Lord is faithful. He will give you strength and keep you safe from the devil [EXB: Satan]. (NLV)
- KJV: But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil.
- Adam Clarke’s Commentary: From evil—Απο του πονηρου may be translated, from the devil or from the evil one.
- G4190 πονηρός poneros (po-nee-ros’) adj. [Thayer’s Greek Lexicon] is used pre-eminently of the devil, the evil one.
Don’t Worry
We can find comfort in knowing that Jesus cares about us. And again, I say, he will protect us.
- Philippians 4:6-7 [read Philippians 4:2-7 (6-7)]
- Don’t worry about anything, but pray about everything. With thankful hearts offer up your prayers and requests to God. 7 Then, because you belong to Christ Jesus, God will bless you with peace that no one can completely understand. And this peace will control the way you think and feel. (CEV)
- KJV: Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Satan has no power over Jesus
- John 14:30 [read John 14:25-31 (30)]
- I will not speak with you much longer, for the ruler of the world (Satan) is coming. And he has no claim on Me [no power over Me nor anything that he can use against Me]; (AMP)
- KJV: Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me.
Always remember, Jesus prayed for you. So never worry about the devil and what he attempts to do to you. Thank you for taking the time to read this Bible snack. I urge you to make full use of it. Blessings to you and your loved ones—♥ Tim. ☺
