Calling things into existence is another example of false teaching. It is based on Romans 4:17; please take about 8 minutes to explore the truth.
The Truth About Calling Things Into Existence (Your Life)
STM Bible Snack
- We do not speak things into existence; only God has that ability.
- Romans 4:17 [read Romans 4:13-25 (17)]
- KJV: (As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.
- That is what the Scriptures mean when God told him, “I have made you the father of many nations.” This happened because Abraham believed in the God who brings the dead back to life and who creates new things out of nothing. (NLT)
- TSK references: Isaiah 43:6, 44:7, 49:12, and 55:12; Acts 15:18; Romans 8:29-30 and 9:26; 1 Peter 2:10; and 2 Peter 3:8.
- Be careful not to believe what these teachers (preachers) say:
- 1. Kenneth Copeland – But one important step you must take is that which Abraham took to move his promise into manifestation. That step is calling things that be not as though they were. Abraham did not do this.
- 2. Creflo Dollar – When we exercise our faith, we can actually bring something into existence merely by speaking the Word. There is no scriptural backing for this.
“Let there be”
There are three passages where “let there be” refers to the immediate creation of something out of nothing. In each case, God spoke.
1st day: Making light and darkness
- Genesis 1:2-3 [read Genesis 1:1-31 (2-3)]
- the earth was formless and desolate. The raging ocean that covered everything was engulfed in total darkness, and the Spirit of God was moving over the water. 3 Then God commanded, “Let there be light”—and light appeared. (GNT)
- KJV: And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. 3 And God said, Let there be lightH1961: and there was light.
- Hayah – “Let there be”
- H1961 הָיָה hayah (haw-yaw) v. to occur, come to pass, be done, be brought about.
2nd day: The sky; Heaven
- Genesis 1:6 and 8 [read Genesis 1:1-31 (6 and 8)]
- Then God said, ‘A wide space will appear between the waters. So the waters will be in two separate places.’ 8 God called the wide space ‘sky’. Evening passed and then it was morning. That was the second day. (EASY)
- KJV: And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters. 8 And God called the firmament HeavenH7549. And the evening and the morning were the second day.
- Raqiya` – Heaven
- H7549 רָקִיַע raqiya` (raw-kee’-ah) n-m. [per Mickelson’s Enhanced Strong’s Dictionaries via theWord] (apparently) the visible arch of the sky.
3rd day: Create day and night
- Genesis 1:14-15 [read Genesis 1:1-31 (14-15)]
- Then God said, “Let there be light-bearers (sun, moon, stars) in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night, and let them be useful for signs (tokens) [of God’s provident care], and for marking seasons, days, and years [Genesis 8:22]; 15 and let them be useful as lights in the expanse of the heavens to provide light on the earth”; and it was so, [just as He commanded]. (AMP)
- KJV: And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:
The power of the tongue
As part of the creation of the earth and everything within it, God said “let the” in verses 9, 11, 20, and 24. In verse 26, He chose, however, to create humans rather than speak them into existence.
- Genesis 1:26-27 [read Genesis 1:1-31 (26-27)]
- Then God said, “Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us. They will reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the livestock, all the wild animals on the earth, and the small animals that scurry along the ground.” 27 So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. (NLT)
- KJV: And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
Death and life
- Proverbs 18:21 [read Proverbs 18:21 (compare Proverbs 12:13, 13:3; Matthew 12:37)]
- What you say can mean [In the power of the tongue are] life or death. Those who speak with care [love it] will be rewarded [eat its fruit]. (EXB)
- KJV: Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.
- The Bible Knowledge Commentary
- A person’s words, figuratively called the fruit of his mouth (cf. “fruit of his lips,” 12:14; 13:2) and the harvest from his lips, can benefit himself when his words are positive and uplifting. However, one’s words (tongue) may bring death as well as life. A witness in a court, for example, can help determine by his words whether a defendant lives or dies. Those who love it (the tongue) refers to people who are talkative (cf. 10:19; 18:2; 20:19); they will suffer the consequences (eat the fruit; cf. 18:20) of what they say.
One could not imagine the chaos that would result if people were calling things into existence! Fortunately, God is wise enough to prevent it. Thank you for taking the time to read this Bible snack. I urge you to make full use of it. Blessings to you and your loved ones—♥ Tim. ☺
