Inheritance: Your Ultimate Priceless Gift Is Reserved In Heaven

Child of God, I take great pleasure in telling you that you have an inheritance through Jesus Christ. That is, if you are obedient to God, you will get your eternal heritage.

Christ has given us the promise of eternal life. 1 John 2:25 (GW)

Read 1 John 2:24-27 (24-25)

Last update: Thursday, March 14, 2024

3 Key Points:

  1. Live forever because of Jesus

God did not promise a life that never ends to the Jews or anyone via the law or old covenant. “…God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son…Jesus Christ. He is the true God, and he is eternal life.” from 1 John 5:11 and 20 (ERV)

  2. Sins forgiven

Jesus paid the debt for our sins. As a result of His blood sacrifice, our sins are forgiven forever. We have been bought by His blood and made free. Our sins are forgiven through Him. Colossians 1:14 (NLV)

  3. Not just for the Jews

All who are wicked will be punished. But all who do right will be rewarded. In any case, it doesn’t matter if they are Jews or Gentiles. For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is God’s powerful method of bringing all who believe it to heaven. This message was preached first to the Jews alone, but now everyone is invited to come to God in this same way. [read Romans 1:16-17 (16)]

The Better Covenant (Testament)

The old way (Law of Moses) was weak and useless requiring a better way. Jesus implemented a far superior system that we all benefit from.

Made right with God

Hebrews 7:11 (EXB)
The people were given the law concerning the system of priests from the tribe of Levi, but they could not be made perfect through that system [If perfection {being made right with God} could be attained through the Levitical priesthood, established for the people in the law…]. So there was […why was there…?] a need for another priest to come, a priest like [in the priestly order/line of] Melchizedek, not [in the priestly order/line of] Aaron [Moses’ brother and Israel’s first high priest (5:4; Exodus 28:1); the existence of Melchizedek’s priestly line implies that the priesthood through Levi and Aaron was inadequate].
Romans 3:22 and 24 (ERV)
God makes people right through their faith in Jesus Christ. He does this for all who believe in Christ. Everyone is the same. 24 They are made right with God by his grace. This is a free gift. They are made right with God by being made free from sin through Jesus Christ.

Old rule ended

The old rule (Testament) is now ended because it was weak and worthless. 19 The Law of Moses could not make anything perfect. But now a better hope has been given to us. And with that hope we can come near to God.

20 Also, it is important that God made a promise with an oath when he made Jesus high priest. When those other men became priests, there was no oath. 21 But Christ became a priest with God’s oath.
God said to him, “The Lord has made a promise with an oath and will not change his mind:
‘You are a priest forever [after the order of Melchizedek].’” (Psalm 110:4)

22 So this means that Jesus is the guarantee of a better agreement from God to his people. Hebrews 7:18-22 (ERV)

Read Hebrews 7:15-28 (22); supported by: Romans 7:1-6 (6), 8:1-11 (2); 2 Corinthians 3:4-18 (6 and 14).

A more excellent ministry

But as it is, Christ has acquired a [priestly] ministry which is more excellent [than the old Levitical priestly ministry], for He is the Mediator (Arbiter) of a better covenant [uniting God and man], which has been enacted and rests on better promises. Hebrews 8:6 (AMP)

  1. I hate to do this to you but to fully understand the old vs. new covenants (testaments), please read:
    1. Hebrews 7:11-8:13 (focus verses: 7:11-13, 18-19, 26-28, 8:1-13; key verses: 7:12, 22, 25, 8:6-7 and 13).
    2. Galatians 3:10-14 (key verses: 10-12); suppoted by: Deuteronomy 27:11-26 (26); Habakkuk 2:2-4 (4); and Leviticus 18:1-30 (5).
    3. Hebrews 9:11-15 (key verse: 15) and 16-22 (key verse: 22).
  2. Think of it this way, under the Old Testament (covenant/will) the Jews were the only heirs; now under the New Testament (covenant/will) the non-Jews (Gentiles) are also heirs.
  3. Whatever you do, please stay with this, I use the Scriptures to explain in the next section.

Why a second/new covenant?

If the first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no need for a second covenant to replace it. 13 When God speaks of a “new” covenant, it means he has made the first one obsolete. It is now out of date and will soon disappear. Hebrews 8:7 and 13 (NLT)

This is the temporary end of the revisions. More to come!

All honor to God, the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ; for it is his boundless mercy that has given us the privilege of being born again so that we are now members of God’s own family. Now we live in the hope of eternal life because Christ rose again from the dead. 4 And God has reserved for his children the priceless gift of eternal life; it is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay. 5 And God, in his mighty power, will make sure that you get there safely to receive it because you are trusting him. It will be yours in that coming last day for all to see. 1 Peter 1:3-5 (TLB)

Heir of Jesus Christ

Child of God, I take great pleasure in telling you that you are an heir of Jesus Christ. What does this mean? You are okayed to receive an inheritance, a promised gift from God. This inheritance is an eternal right, covenant blessing. Never-ending life in Heaven is your heritage provided you meet the covenant terms and conditions of the Father’s will (testament). You do know the Bible is God’s will—a legal document created to dispose of the testator’s (one who makes and executes the last will and testament) estate and effects by testament?

So, Jesus has become the guarantee of a better Agreement [or testament between God and mankind]. Hebrews 7:22 (AUV).

I hate to do this to you but to fully understand the old vs. new covenants (testaments) read Hebrews 7:11-8:13 (focus verses: 7:11-13, 18-19, 26-28, 8:3-6; key verses: 7:12, 22, 25, 8:6-7, 12-13). Think of it this way, under the Old Testament (covenant/will) the Jews were the only heirs; now under the New Testament (covenant/will) the non-Jews (Gentiles) are also heirs. Stay with this, I use the Scriptures to explain in the next section.

Christ the go-between

That’s why Christ is the go-between of a new covenant. Now those God calls to himself will receive the eternal gift he promised. They will receive it now that Christ has died to save them. He died to set them free from the sins they committed under the first covenant.
16 What happens when someone leaves a will? It is necessary to prove that the person who made the will has died. 17 A will is in effect only when somebody has died. It never takes effect while the one who made it is still living. 18 That’s why even the first covenant was not put into effect without the spilling of blood. Hebrews 9:15-18 (NIRV)

You are an heir of Christ

Jesus died to put the will in force, Hebrews 9:16-17 tell us “For where there is a will, the death of the testator must be established. For a will is in force only upon death: it has no strength at all while the testator lives.” Keep reading verses 18-27; Hebrews 9:28 (WNT) “so the Christ also, having been once offered in sacrifice in order that He might bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, separated from sin, to those who are eagerly expecting Him, to make their salvation complete.” Are you ‘eagerly expecting Him?’ You should be, you are His heir!

Romans 8:16-17 (RKJNT)

The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: 17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if indeed we suffer with him that we may also be glorified with him.

James 2:5 (Murdock)

Hear, my beloved brethren; hath not God chosen the poor of the world, but the rich in faith, to be heirs in the kingdom which God hath promised to them that love him? [Please read James 2:1-13 (key verse: 5)]

Acts 26:17-18 (RKJNT)

I will deliver you from the people, and from the Gentiles, to whom I now send you, 18 To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and an inheritance along with those who are sanctified by faith in me.

“And God has reserved for his children the priceless gift of eternal life; it is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay.”
1 Peter 1:4 (TLB)

Eternal Life, Your Ultimate Priceless Gift

When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory: 32 And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats: 33 And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, and the goats on the left. 34 Then shall the King say to those on his right hand, Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: 35 For I was hungry, and you gave me food: I was thirsty, and you gave me drink: I was a stranger, and you took me in: 36 Naked, and you clothed me: I was sick, and you visited me: I was in prison, and you came to me. Matthew 25:31-36 (RKJNT)

New Bodies

Look forward to the day when we will be changed in twinkling of an eye and put on our heavenly bodies;

Imperishable

“Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. Behold, I tell you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed.” 1 Corinthians 15:50-52 (RKJNT)

The guarantee

These earthly bodies make us groan and sigh, but we wouldn’t like to think of dying and having no bodies at all. We want to slip into our new bodies so that these dying bodies will, as it were, be swallowed up by everlasting life. 5 This is what God has prepared for us, and as a guarantee he has given us his Holy Spirit.

6 Now we look forward with confidence to our heavenly bodies, realizing that every moment we spend in these earthly bodies is time spent away from our eternal home in heaven with Jesus.

The reward

Whatever you do, do it readily, as to the Lord and not to men; 24 Being certain that the Lord will give you the reward of the heritage: for you are the servants of the Lord Christ. 25 For the wrongdoer will have punishment for the wrong he has done, without respect for any man’s position. Colossians 3:23-25 (BBE)

Do not lose your inheritance

Some Bible teachers then and today mislead people, making them think all will inherit God’s kingdom/heaven, this is not true. The Scriptures are clear, as a spiritual legal adviser, I caution you, read them and believe them. Not all will receive the heritage (God’s gift/reward for His obedient and faithful {born-again} children); going to church does not make you an heir, you must meet the terms outlined in the Bible.

Or don’t you know that the unrighteous will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don’t be deceived. Neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor male prostitutes, nor homosexuals, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor slanderers, nor extortioners, will inherit the Kingdom of God. 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 (WEB)

Naughty flesh

This I say, Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the desires of the flesh. 17 For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are in conflict with one another: so that you cannot do the things that you wish. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. 19 Now the works of the flesh are obvious; they are; sexual immorality, impurity, licentiousness, 20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, strife, jealousy, fits of rage, selfishness, dissensions, factions, 21 Envy, drunkenness, orgies, and the like: of which I forewarn you, as I have also warned you in the past, that those who do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. Galatians 5:16-21 (RKJNT) [Please read Galatians 5:16-25 (key verses: 19-21)]

Check your ways

But sexual sin and all impurity [or, immorality] or covetous desire [or, greed], stop letting it even be named among you, as is fitting for holy ones, 4 also [neither] indecent behavior [or, obscene speech] and foolish [or, idle] talk nor coarse joking [or, vulgar talk]— the [things] not fitting— but rather thanksgiving. 5 For this you are knowing: that every sexual sinner or unclean [or, impure] [person] or covetous person, who is an idolater, does not have an inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. Ephesians 5:3-5 (ALT)

Understanding your heritage

picture of beach for the inheritance bs
“Then the king will say to the godly people on his right, ‘Come, my Father has great blessings for you. The kingdom he promised is now yours. It has been prepared for you since the world was made. – Your Inheritance – Matthew 25:34 (ERV)”

Heritage is that which is inherited or passes from heir to heir. An heir is one who receives any gift (endowment) from an ancestor.

34 Then shall the King say to those on his right hand, Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. Matthew 25:31-34 (RKJNT)

Changed…

You will be changed and put on heavenly bodies one day. That is worth waiting for!

Brothers and sisters, here is what I’m telling you. Bodies made of flesh and blood can’t share in the kingdom of God. And what dies can’t share in what never dies. 51 Listen! I am telling you a mystery. We will not all die. But we will all be changed. 52 That will happen in a flash, as quickly as you can wink an eye. It will happen at the blast of the last trumpet. Then the dead will be raised to live forever. And we will be changed. 1 Corinthians 15:50-52 (NIRV) [Please read 1 Corinthians 15:50-58]

Hope for your reward promotes faith and love

You have this faith and love because of your hope, and what you hope for is saved for you in heaven. You learned about this hope when you heard the true teaching, the Good News. 12 Then you will joyfully give thanks to the Father. He has made you able to have all that he has prepared for his people who live in the light. Colossians 1:5, 12 (ICB)

In whatever you do, work wholeheartedly, as though it were for the Lord and not [just] for people, 24 knowing that you will receive from the Lord a [spiritual] inheritance as a reward, [for] you are [really] serving the Lord. 25 And the person who does what is wrong will be repaid for his wrongdoing, for there is no favoritism [with God]. Colossians 3:23-25 (AUV)

Do not lose your inheritance

Some Bible teachers then and today mislead people, making them think all will inherit God’s kingdom/heaven, this is not true. The Scriptures are clear, as a spiritual legal adviser, I caution you, read them and believe them. 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 (WEB)

Please obey the Holy Spirit’s instructions – Acts 5:29; 2 Thessalonians 1:8-9; 1 Peter 4:17-19

I advise you to obey only the Holy Spirit’s instructions. He will tell you where to go and what to do, and then you won’t always be doing the wrong things your evil nature wants you to. 17 For we naturally love to do evil things that are just the opposite from the things that the Holy Spirit tells us to do; and the good things we want to do when the Spirit has his way with us are just the opposite of our natural desires. These two forces within us are constantly fighting each other to win control over us, and our wishes are never free from their pressures. 18 When you are guided by the Holy Spirit, you need no longer force yourself to obey Jewish laws.

19 But when you follow your own wrong inclinations, your lives will produce these evil results: impure thoughts, eagerness for lustful pleasure, 20 idolatry, spiritism (that is, encouraging the activity of demons), hatred and fighting, jealousy and anger, constant effort to get the best for yourself, complaints and criticisms,
the feeling that everyone else is wrong except those in your own little group—and there will be wrong doctrine, 21 envy, murder, drunkenness, wild parties, and all that sort of thing. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that
anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.
Galatians 5:16-21 (TLB) [Please read Galatians 5:16-25 (key verses: 19-21)]

Conclusion

picture of cloudy sky for the inheritance bs
“Remember that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward, and that the Master you are serving is Christ. – Your Inheritance – Colossians 3:24 (NLT)

Everyone who wins the victory (overcomes) will inherit…

And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away; and there was no more sea. 2 And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a great voice from the throne saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he shall live among them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. 4 And he shall wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, or sorrow, or crying, or pain: for the former things have passed away. Revelation 21:1-8 (RKJNT)

All things new

5 And he who sits upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said to me, Write: for these words are faithful and true.

6 And he said to me, It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give to him who is thirsty, without cost, from the spring of the water of life. 7 He who overcomes shall inherit all these things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son. 8 But the cowardly, and unbelieving, and the vile, and murderers, and the sexually immoral, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and sulphur: which is the second death. [Please read Revelation 21:1-8 (key verse: 7)]

More from Galatians

“To speak in terms of human relations, brethren, [if] even a man makes a last will and testament (a merely human covenant). No one sets it aside or makes it void or adds to it when once it has been drawn up and signed (ratified, confirmed).” Jesus was Abrahams ‘seed’ (heir or descendant) of promise {Galatians 3:16}; Galatians 3:15 (AMP)

“But Scripture has locked up everything under the control of sin. It does so in order that what was promised might be given to those who believe. The promise comes through faith in Jesus Christ.” Galatians 3:22 (NIRV) [Please read Galatians 3:15-29 (key verses: 15-16, 23-29)].

You belong to Christ, so you are Abraham’s descendants. You will inherit all of God’s blessings because of the promise God made to Abraham. Galatians 3:29 (NCV)

Receive your inheritance and live in bliss forever—Tim.
